The Laboratory of Computational Modeling Methods (LAMEC), affiliated with the Mechanical Engineering department at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), is an institutional space dedicated to teaching, research, and academic development. It focuses on advanced studies and the qualification of students through scientific initiation programs. The laboratory specializes in analyzing and solving complex engineering problems, with an emphasis on computational modeling and simulation applied to the railway and offshore industries, contributing to scientific knowledge and technological advancement in these fields.
Our mission is to foster the development of undergraduate students by providing a solid scientific and technical foundation, stimulating critical thinking, intellectual autonomy, and engagement with high-level research. The laboratory prepares its members for both academic and professional challenges, including continuing their studies in Master’s and Doctoral programs at leading institutions in Brazil and abroad.
Research activities at LAMEC cover topics such as the mechanical and dynamic behavior of structures and materials, vibrations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), non-linear problems, viscoelastic materials, fatigue, structural failure, and applications in railway, offshore, and general mechanical systems engineering. Beyond scientific production, the laboratory serves as a space for mentorship, knowledge exchange, and the academic growth of its students.
Beyond being just a research environment, LAMEC strives to be a hub for professional growth, support, and the shaping of career paths. By integrating teaching, research, and human development, the laboratory reaffirms its commitment to excellence in public higher education, the production of impactful knowledge, and the training of engineers and researchers prepared to act with competence, social responsibility, and scientific rigor.

Research Topics
LAMEC develops projects in areas such as dynamic analysis of offshore structures, soil-structure interaction, and fluid-structure interaction. Furthermore, the lab strongly encourages scientific production, with active participation in national and international conferences, publication of scientific articles, and the development of undergraduate research projects.
About LAMEC
The LAMEC — Laboratory of Computational Modeling Methods is a space dedicated to the academic and scientific training of undergraduate students, linked to the Technology Center at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). Its main objective is to provide students with a differentiated research experience, contributing to the development of technical, analytical, and critical skills — fundamental abilities for both pursuing graduate studies and performing competitively in the job market.

Knowledge Building
At LAMEC, students are challenged to solve real engineering problems using tools such as computational modeling, structural analysis, numerical simulations, and the development of innovative solutions. The laboratory acts as a bridge between theory and practice, fostering autonomy, discipline, critical thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively.
External Relation and Collab
One of LAMEC's great differentials is the direct collaboration with professors and researchers from top-tier universities in Brazil and abroad, such as USP, UNICAMP, UnB, and UFSM, among others. This academic cooperation network provides students with access to cutting-edge methodologies, updated discussions, and high-level mentoring, further enhancing their education. This connection also opens doors to exchange programs, graduate studies, and participation in high-impact scientific and technological projects.
“LAMEC's mission goes far beyond technical training. The lab is also a space for personal growth, autonomy building, and the development of a scientific and critical mindset, where students are constantly encouraged to pursue excellence, overcome challenges, and build a solid academic and professional path — capable of opening opportunities both inside and outside the university.”
